Endemic areas generally encounter multiple strains of parasites. Multiplicity of infection (MOI) serves as an indicator of transmission intensity of infection. PCR based assays of MOI lack sensitivity.The genotyping of merozoite surface protein (MSP1/2 ) is a standard method for estimating MOI.In this article the authors Assefa et al have presented a method to assess MOI which is based on unique combinations of polymorphisms from sequence reads.
