Metabolic engineering has been of great importance in past also. Nowadays, with so much sequence data available it has become a whole new field in itself. Various algorithms are being developed for design of metabolic itervention strategies. These stategies are essential for product development.
Recently, Schneider et. al.(2019) have evaluated and ranked the various metabolic engineering strategies. The evaluation of these strategies would help in investigating development of the products. The various ways of finding whether a pathway will be interrupted upstream or downstream would prove to be very useful.They have also taken the example of growth of E.coli for synthesis of L-methionine.
