It has been found that though some bacteria possess proteasome machinery but most archea have its simple homolog, the heat shock locus V protease. Recently, three new basic subunits of the proteasome have been characterized in Archea. These are named as Anbu, BPH and connectase. With the characterization of these subunits it has been established that proteasome exhibit a range of structural and functional forms.
Fuchs Andrian C.D. et. al.(2021) in their recent article have shown that so far we know of few proteasome but there is wealth of them lying to be characterized. Using sequence and structural analysis the authors have analyzed 22 such proteasomes. The protein sequences are searchable at the following URL:https://toolkit.tuebingen.mpg.de and datasets on these homologs is available at https://data.mendeley.com/datasets/t48yhff7hs/3:
